5,700 runners race in Dead Sea Marathon
About 5,700 athletes on Friday participated in annual Dead Sea Marathon events along the southern shores of the lake in southeastern Israel, the lowest spot on earth.
The Marathon race, organized by Tamar Regional Council, included a running section towards the center of the sea on the border embankment between Israel and Jordan in the southern part of the Dead Sea.
The winner of the men’s race was Israel’s Ziv Baum, who timed two hours, 59 minutes and 14 seconds, while his compatriot Hilla Bonneh won the women’s marathon by 3:16:55.
The two winners received a prize of 1,500 shekels (469 U.S. dollars) each.
The event also included half marathon, 50km, 10km and 5km races.
